Dela Finn is undoubtedly one young movie director who’s got a lot under his sleeves for the world as far as the creative arts industry is concerned.
He is an entrepreneur, video director and video editor, and he’s the CEO of Deland Films and DF Media Concept.
In this exclusive interview, he opens up on his most anticipated short film – ABUSED. Read On!
Racheal Wyettey: Hello Dela Finn! What’s the best description any one can give to you?

Dela Finn: Dela Finn is a young filmmaker in Ghana and a very cool guy with dreams of making an impact on the society through filmmaking.
Racheal Wyettey: Cool guy indeed. So why did you chose filmmaking as a medium for impacting society when there are so many mediums out there?
Dela Finn: Well, first of all, filmmaking is my passion. I used to watch a lot of movies when I was young and I did criticise most of the stories. Since the love is there for movie making, I observed that most of the stories that are on screens are not educating the public so I decided to use movies as a medium to educate. And also in this era, entertainment is dominating so I decided make movies to ‘edutain’ the public.
Racheal Wyettey: That’s nice. Talking about using movies to educate, let’s talk about your latest short film – Abused. What moved you to come up with it?
Dela Finn: ABUSED, I was scrolling down my news feed on Facebook last year and I came across a post about a woman who was brutally beaten by the husband and I realised nothing was done. So I decided to research on domestic violence in Ghana and I realised it is a serious issue. Then as a filmmaker, I made up my mind to make a short film to campaign, creating awareness on this particular topic.

Racheal Wyettey: Oh interesting! So what should Ghana and the world expect from this particular film?
Dela Finn: The world should expect a powerful message package in less minutes by creative young filmmakers.
Racheal Wyettey: I already can’t wait you know; every bit of me is itching. What other means do you intend using to achieve the aim behind the film?
Dela Finn: We will be organising youth forums in schools, towns, villages, churches etcetera, to campaign, educate, create awareness and empower women. In general, if God be for us, we will be embarking on a nationwide tour.
Racheal Wyettey: Outstanding! God will certainly be for us. So have you received any support so far? What are some of the things you expect the public to do to support your project?
Dela Finn: God being so good, the public is giving us the support by spreading the message across on all social media platforms and we’re getting great sponsorship from kind hearted people which I’m so grateful for.
We are still welcoming more sponsors. No amount is Small. Let’s join hands together to push this project. I’m trying my best to get to the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social protection.
Racheal Wyettey: That’s good news; lets hope for the best. That aside, when should we expect this campaign to effectively begin. When will the film actually start premiering?
Dela Finn: I just want to ask the public to exercise patience. The campaign has already begun. The hash tags are #LetsFightViolenceAgainstWomen #SayNoToViolenceAgainstWomen
As for the Premiere, it is a big surprise. I can’t believe it myself because where this project has reached now, *hmmm* let’s keep fingers crossed but the public should expect the Premiere in early May.
Racheal Wyettey: We just can’t wait yeah. So this short film that everyone seem to be talking about, who are some of the actors its starring? That you think we should watch out for.
Dela Finn: Yes! Ghana should watch out for the main characters in the movie JOYCE EVEREST and NELSON MANDELA JNR. And also, WORNU REBECCA, NOMO ESTHER DEDE, KPODO ROSE, CELESTINA E. DOGBEY, NANA YAA DANSO, GLORIA S. BRITWUM.
Racheal Wyettey: We certainly will! So, as far as Violence against women is concerned, do you have any message for the public?
Dela Finn: I just want to say, they (victims) should speak up. They should stand up for themselves. People are losing their lives in these issues. They shouldn’t be blinded by love. Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) is there to deal with the issues. They should report any one abusing them to the authorities.
Racheal Wyettey: How about a message to your friends, family, fans and the many people out there who are exhilarated by what you do?
Dela Finn: I want to say a big thank you for the support they are giving My Team and I. They shouldn’t stop. We need more of it to create the awareness. I’m very grateful and they should watch out for ABUSED the Short Film.
Racheal Wyettey: It has been nice talking to you, and about your project. Thanks for your time.
Dela Finn: My Pleasure! God bless you for putting me on.
