Government to Present 24-Hour Economy Policy to Parliament

The Ghanaian government is set to present its proposed 24-hour economy policy to Parliament soon, according to Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson. The announcement was made on March 11 during the presentation of the 2025 Budget Statement.

The initiative, a key component of the current administration’s economic agenda, is designed to enhance productivity by encouraging businesses to operate beyond traditional working hours. Dr. Forson reaffirmed the government’s dedication to implementing the policy, emphasizing its potential to generate employment and support economic growth.

“The Mahama-led NDC government is committed to the pursuit of the 24-hour economy policy,” he stated.

The concept has been a focal point in recent political discussions, with advocates arguing that it will optimize the use of infrastructure, boost investments, and increase productivity in critical sectors. The government is reportedly working on a comprehensive framework to ensure a smooth implementation, including incentives for businesses willing to participate.

Dr. Forson stressed that the success of the policy will require strong collaboration between the public and private sectors. He urged Parliament to support the initiative once it is formally presented, as it is expected to play a crucial role in Ghana’s economic transformation strategy.
