The Africa Media Development Foundation (AMDF) has opened applications for the 2026 Africa Conference on Development Journalism (ACDJ) Media Fellowship, offering journalists an opportunity to strengthen their development reporting skills through practical training and editorial mentorship.
The fellowship is designed for African journalists and non-African journalists who actively report on African issues and are interested in telling impactful development stories.
According to the announcement, only 10 journalists will be selected for the programme, which will run alongside the Africa Conference on Development Journalism in Kaduna, Nigeria, from December 2 to 4, 2026.
Selected fellows will benefit from practical story development sessions, editorial mentoring and guidance on pitching stories. The programme will also feature a Story Lab during the conference, alongside professional networking opportunities and follow-up sessions.
The initiative aims to strengthen development journalism across Africa by equipping journalists with the skills and guidance needed to identify, develop and pitch stories on issues affecting communities across the continent.
Eligibility and application deadline
The fellowship is open to journalists of all nationalities, provided non-African applicants actively report on African issues.
Interested applicants are required to submit their applications by October 25, 2026.
However, prospective applicants should note that the fellowship does not cover participants’ travel, accommodation or feeding expenses.
Selected fellows will be responsible for arranging and financing their transportation to and from Kaduna, as well as their accommodation and meals throughout the programme.
