The University of Ghana (UG) has directed undergraduate students who obtained a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) below 1.00 at the end of the 2025/2026 academic year to withdraw from their programmes of study.
The directive, issued by the university’s Academic Affairs Directorate, is in accordance with Section 9.26 of the Regulations for Junior Members (2017), which outlines the academic progression requirements for students.
According to the university, undergraduate students must obtain a minimum CGPA of 1.00 and meet any additional requirements set by their respective schools or departments to progress to the next academic level.
The university stressed that its academic progression policy does not provide for probation for students who fail to meet the minimum CGPA requirement.
“The regulation provides that, to progress to the next level, a student must obtain a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 1.00 or better and satisfy School/Departmental requirements. There is no probation,” the notice stated.
It added that students whose CGPAs fall below 1.00 after all grades for their registered courses have been released for the 2025/2026 academic year are considered not to be in good academic standing and must withdraw from their programmes.
How affected University of Ghana students can initiate withdrawal
The Academic Affairs Directorate has advised affected students to check their CGPAs through the university’s Management Information System (MIS) Web and access the Student Tracking System (STS) Portal to initiate the withdrawal process.
Students are required to log in to the STS Portal using their Student ID and PIN, then select the ‘Withdrawal Request’ option.
However, the university clarified that the procedure may differ for students enrolled in certain programmes.
For such programmes, the relevant school or department will initiate the withdrawal process on behalf of affected students.
Students who require further information or clarification have been advised to contact their respective College Academic Offices.
University offers counselling support to affected students
Beyond the administrative process, the university has encouraged affected students to seek guidance and support from its Careers and Counselling Directorate.
The support is intended to provide students with access to counselling as they navigate the implications of their academic standing.
The directive underscores the university’s academic progression requirements, which make a minimum CGPA of 1.00 a condition for undergraduate students to advance to the next academic level.
Students have therefore been urged to verify their academic records and follow the applicable procedures if they fall below the required threshold.
