‘Sweet Boy’ EP reflects my desire to connect with every household – Kuami Eugene

Ghanaian Highlife and Afrobeat musician, Eugene Kwame Marfo, known in Showbiz as Kuami Eugene, has explained the inspiration behind his latest body of work, saying his “Sweet Boy” EP was created to connect with fans across all age groups and households.

Speaking on TV3’s 3Entertainment, the award-winning songwriter said the project came after his exit from Lynx Entertainment two years ago.

According to him, leaving the record label pushed him to begin releasing singles independently before eventually deciding to compile a complete project for his fans. He said songs such as Monica, which he described as his last song under Lynx Entertainment, alongside tracks including Pull Up, Do Better, Instagram and Berlin, were all released after his departure from the label.

He noted that the consistent release of singles made him realise the need to create a larger body of work for music lovers in Ghana and beyond.

Explaining the title of the EP, the musician said he wanted to be recognised as someone who appeals to everyone regardless of age.

“The mums love him, the kids love him, the uncles, the aunties, everybody loves him,” he said while describing the “Sweet Boy” identity.

Kuami Eugene added that although he still maintains his “rockstar” image, he also wants people to see him as relatable and approachable. “I just want to be that sweet boy that fits in every household,” he stated.

Discussing the sound and direction of his music, the singer explained that his current style is centred on what he described as “sweet music”.

While noting that his earlier works leaned heavily towards Highlife, he said the new EP explores a broader range of sounds designed for listeners to enjoy in different settings.

According to him, the project contains a mixture of vibes including swagger, bougie, sexy, Highlife and even aggressive sounds.
He added that the EP was intentionally crafted to suit different moods and occasions, from family moments and car rides to parties and disco nights.

Kuami Eugene said listeners can enjoy the project whether they are spending time with friends, celebrating birthdays or simply relaxing.
