Ghana’s Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has urged members and communicators of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to remain disciplined and focused ahead of the 2028 general elections, warning them not to allow what he describes as false propaganda to dictate the party’s agenda.
Mr Afenyo-Markin said NPP members must remain vigilant, question information presented to them and focus on the issues affecting Ghanaians rather than being drawn into what he described as “manufactured distractions”.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, he said NPP members, officers and communicators have an even greater responsibility to ensure that the party remains focused as the country approaches the next elections.
“NPP members, officers and communicators especially carry an even greater responsibility. We must remain alert, disciplined and focused,” he said.
He urged party communicators to verify information and respond quickly to claims they consider false.
“Check the facts, expose the lies quickly and never allow false propaganda to dictate our agenda,” he said.
Mr Afenyo-Markin said the party’s focus should remain on what he described as the government’s “broken promises” and the everyday problems confronting Ghanaians.
He further called on NPP members to promote the vision of the party’s 2028 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, with what he described as clarity and conviction.
“Above all, stay on message by promoting Dr Bawumia’s vision for Ghana with clarity and conviction while working relentlessly towards victory in 2028,” he said.
The Minority Leader also accused the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of likely using misinformation and disinformation as a political strategy ahead of the 2028 elections.
He alleged that such a strategy would involve “fake news” and attempts to divert attention from national issues on which he believes the government has failed to deliver.
According to him, the NPP must therefore avoid being distracted and instead maintain its focus on issues that matter to Ghanaians.
Mr Afenyo-Markin concluded his message with a call for the party to maintain a consistent political agenda ahead of the elections.
“Expose the lies. Focus on the issues. Promote the vision. Win 2028,” he stated.
