Senior Presidential Advisor and Aide to President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has urged women in leadership to build strong support networks that encourage their growth, challenge unfair treatment and provide honest advice.
She said having dependable people to rely on was essential for women navigating the challenges of leadership, particularly in workplaces where their abilities and achievements were often questioned.
In a Facebook post on Friday, October 16, Ms Bawah Mogtari reflected on a discussion with former Electoral Commission Chairperson Charlotte Osei at the Obaasima Conference, where issues affecting women in leadership were discussed.
She said the conversation reinforced the importance of cultivating relationships that go beyond public expressions of solidarity to provide practical support and encouragement.
According to her, a genuine support system should include people who are willing to speak up against injustice, offer constructive criticism and celebrate the achievements of others without feeling threatened.
Such relationships, she noted, could make a significant difference in how women navigate the pressures and responsibilities associated with leadership.
Obaasima Conference highlights women’s leadership challenges
Ms Bawah Mogtari said the Obaasima Conference should serve as a platform for women to share their experiences, learn from one another and build meaningful connections.
She emphasised that creating opportunities for women to engage with one another could help strengthen the relationships needed to navigate professional challenges and advance their leadership journeys.
While acknowledging that leadership could be difficult for women, she stressed that having trusted people to provide support and guidance could make the experience more manageable and rewarding.
Her comments highlight the importance of mentorship, professional solidarity and constructive feedback in creating environments where women can thrive in leadership positions.
The message also underscores the need for women to cultivate relationships with people who will not only encourage their ambitions but also stand up for them when they face unfair treatment.
By encouraging women to invest in meaningful support networks, Ms Bawah Mogtari called attention to the role that trusted relationships can play in helping women navigate leadership challenges and achieve their professional goals.
